Disaster Risk Management in Agricultural Sectors of China with Focus on Complementarity between Revised Institutions and Traditional Functions

I Acknowledgement This dissertation is about the roles of Rural Credit Cooperatives, informal financial sectors and communities in disaster risk management in agricultural sectors of China, which reflects the study and research I have done in the last three years at Kyoto University (KU), Japan. During the past years, many people offered me support, either face-to-face or electronically. By the ending stage of my thesis as well as doctoral program, I would like to appreciate all those who have been providing me with all kinds of help. bring out the dissertation here. Beyond this paper, Prof. Okada gave me much guidance and inspiration on past, present and future study, research and life. Since I got to know him in 2004, with his vast professional knowledge and efficient educational methods, Prof. Okada kept deepening and widening my understanding and comprehension about the definition, contents and implementation of disaster risk management. Additionally, for me, Prof. Okada is a wiser who can give me helpful advice and suggestion on life and career. I am very grateful to Dr. Muneta Yokomatsu, my teacher and friend at Disaster Prevention Research Institute (DPRI) of KU. During the process of my study and research, with his profound understanding and rich knowledge on disaster risk financing, Dr. Yokomatsu has been supplying me with patient and enlightening direction and advice on modeling and analysis. I have learned a lot from Dr. Yokomatsu's accuracy, strict and assiduous way in study and research. Furthermore, Dr. Yokomatsu is so nice and warmhearted in daily life that we can exchange ideas very smoothly and efficiently. I greatly thank Prof. Kiyoshi Kobayashi from Graduate School of Engineering of KU and Prof. Hirokazu Tatano from DPRI of KU for reviewing my thesis.
